Seems like something better suited to 3D printing over machining.

i dont get it why didnt you just weld the aluminum? it is easy to weld it you need an ac tig welder or you can do it with a mig welder

Great video, thank you. I am not totally sure but I think that the display rubbing on a precise sequence of magnets will have some kind of statistical skewing of the results, I would think it’d be better if it would only touch the resulting magnets after it finished spinning, clearly that would be much more difficult to implement and since I am not sure I am right you probably shouldn’t. Thanks for the video!

I'm thinking you need to get the wheel balanced before you'll get to shave off that 5% keeping it from true RNG. I have no idea how you would do that, tho. 🪓

Do you have design schematics for this? I'm looking at the design and I think it would actually be possible to use a laser cutter and 3d printer to create an inexpensive version that allows you to swap magnetic plates in and out to adjust the range of the die.

Very few smartphones are accurate. The carrier (T-mobile in my case) uses its own clock, and the local tower drifts around a second or two (!?!) compared to the GPS constellation. So far I haven't found a way to set my android phone to the GPS constellation stratum, so my cellphone is kind of a lone outlier. (I could root the phone I guess, but I'm concerned about how security would work if I mess around with timekeeping). My home runs a OCXO slaved to the GPS stratum, and I serve PTP and NTP in-home which is much better than relying on NTP through satellite ISPs for my rural location.

I know the distribution looks good but it's, in a way, false. Dice are not numeric, they are probabilistic. In other words, you cannot use the mean value, you have to use the probability of a specific value occurring. Easiest example is the natural 20. If you are going for a natural 20, it doesn't matter that the 4 dice add up to 20, you want one to be 20! It's a probability not a sum or mean. Similarly if a game mechanic requires a double, then it's the probability of one dice matching another. This becomes more important when micro bias and variation occurs... 2 nearly perfectly balanced dice might have a slightly larger chance of summing a smaller number for example. For more on this Google what ordinal numbers are.

You'd need some sort of wave guide to redirect the magnetism of the twisted rod or use shielding to prevent crosstalk but the shielding might absorb too much energy. Guiding the magnetic field is trickier than guiding the electric field.

I don't understand the timezone rant. Do you genuinely think that we use time to tell when it'll be local noon? I couldn't care less where the sun is, I want to know when I should be clicking the refresh button to book the concert tickets that will sell out after a few seconds.

If you want the magnets to be easily removed and still be snuck fit you could add small holes to the middle of inlay and then use an punch tool to remove them.

I also think that timezones should be removed, but my idea is literally removing them. Have a single clock that simply has 12am at different times of the day, without any need of adjustment. The only reason we needed the clocks to correspond to solar time is that we didn't have lights that allowed us to work without it. And if anyone thinks that removing timezones is a really bad idea, let's just make sure that they are straight lines, and not completely politically gerrymandered, ok?

For the D%, you should use 2 separate free spinning disks with your D10 pads. Also, scramble your numbers a bit more rather than running them sequentially. For spinning, an idea could be to use one of the lever (or paddle) chain mechanism with a bit of slippage. That would prevent people from influencing the results by flexing the force being used to spin the wheel. But that is over engineering xD

You may be able to figure out a way to do a disc with a display inside a ring with a dispay, which you could then spin together with the displays lining up one above the other.
